Back-to-School Beginnings
The dog days of summer have recently pushed temperatures above 90 degrees, but that can’t stop CCSD59 students and families from having a great time.
Fans and sun umbrellas were in tow as families arrived at the Oasis Mobile Home Park on Saturday, August 4. Students, parents, and siblings had the opportunity to get information from local organizations at the annual meet-and-greet event.
Back-to-school partners included D214, the Salvation Army, Harper College, Cook County Sheriff’s Department, Elk Grove Village Fire Department, The Bridge Church, and many others.
The annual celebration included plentiful donations from local community businesses, including food, outdoor games, giveaways, and music. Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics also dressed in full uniforms, brought vehicles to showcase, and offered students detailed tours of the fleet.
Sponsors joined CCSD59 staff and board members in providing another generous raffle with thousands of dollars in prizes, including two Chromebooks, gift cards, and more. Over 350 backpacks with new supplies were also gifted to students in attendance.
Dr. Katie Ahsell, Executive Director of Student Growth and Equity, said the annual event continues to provide opportunities for staff and students to come together to learn, prepare for a new school year, exchange ideas and celebrate the new beginning of a school year.
“Positive school, family, & community relationships are a key factor in school success. When we can work together for the good of our students, we all win,” she said. “We are so grateful for everyone who joined us to eat, dance, play, learn, and just celebrate our community together.”
