I extend to you a very warm welcome to The Early Learning Center in District 59, home of the Jr. Hawks!  The Early Learning Center is where District 59’s youngest learners begin their educational journey in an environment that inspires curiosity and interaction, connects to nature, and welcomes the community.  I am honored to be the principal of the Early Learning Center and look forward to serving students, staff and families.

Early childhood is an exciting time in your child’s education and we want to make sure that these early experiences are positive and rewarding!  At the ELC, our students engage in modern learning through learning experiences and environments which allow for student choice, exploration, creative expression, problem solving, practice of school-readiness skills, technology, and growth across domains (social-emotional, motor, cognitive). These hands-on experiences foster the development of the whole child.  Utilizing the Creative Curriculum, researched-based teaching methods, children’s interests, and the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (IELDS), our highly qualified, dedicated staff collaborate to design learning experiences for children that promote learning and growth throughout the day, thereby supporting our district mission – Preparing students to be successful for life.

To help us monitor each child’s development and share that information with their families, we use a tool called the Early Learning Scale, or ELS.  The Early Learning Scale (ELS) is a system for assessing the development of preschool children. It helps us evaluate the progress your child is making in three key educational areas, or domains: Math/Science, Social-Emotional/Social Studies, and Language and Literacy. Educators have determined that competence in these domains is critical to your child’s future success in elementary school.

We acknowledge the important role that families play in the lives of their children and invite you to work with us to help us serve your children. To that end, please note that we welcome your feedback; call, email or send a note. Also, you are always welcome at The Early Learning Center. We simply ask that if you want to visit that you make arrangements and call ahead to schedule your visit.
